This remarkable suite by Mendelssohn, despite being such an early opus (op.7), demonstrates the undoubted talent of the sixteen-year-old author, his absolute recognition, a fully formed style and original handwriting. The 3rd and 5th numbers of this opus were written under the influence of studying the polyphony and art of counterpoint of J.S. Bach. I would even say that this sometimes looks like a daring challenge to his virtual teacher. The final scherzo is as perfect as his later works, with the same mastery and ease. The orchestral arrangement serves the further popularity of this work and the disclosure of the character and inner content of each number of this brilliant suite.
