Veteran film composer Jerry Goldsmith was Oscar nominated for his work on 'POLTERGEIST' but lost out to John Williams for 'E.T. the Extra Terrestrial'. This secondary theme from the soundtrack is a wonderful example of Goldsmith's use of harmony, underscoring the ethereal calmness of 'the light' with contrasting major/minor chords. Perfect as an alternative choice for a Hallowe'en concert, it features a lovely trio for cor anglais, bassoon and bass clarinet (all cross-cued for smaller ensembles).
