A real barn-burner of an arrangement for SATB a cappella. After a stolid march-like introduction (which uses two different 2-bar ostinatos in the tenor and bass sections), the strictness of the march gives way to a loose, Dixieland feel. Basses, tenors, and altos in succession get a chance to showcase their own special counter-melodies, and when all of these have been combined with the tune in the soprano, the audience is called upon to sing the tune (which they probably will have been doing anyway!) so that the sopranos can add one more counter-melody! After a bit of a singalong, a sudden deceptive cadence signals that no further audience participation is required--that is, until they have heard the choir sing the stunning coda of the arrangement, at which point their rapturous applause will be gratefully received!
