The 12 pieces in Bulgarian Rhythm by the great Bulgarian composer Parashkev Haddjiev were written originally for piano. The composer had a special gift for composlng brief character pieces that convey a specific mood or illustlate a glven musical problem. Such are the pieces in this collection where the main issue is rfurthmic. "Bulgarian Rhyhm," as Bartok calls it, is uneven. It alternates duple and triple beats within each measure. The pieces are fresh and cute in a typical folk-like style. Ravnopolska-Deans arrangement uses specific harp techniques and effects. Mastering the rhythrnic patterns found in this colleetion enhances inner rhyhmic stability and provides a valuabie "bridge" to solving more complex rhytmic problems. As an additional teaching aid Ravnopolska-Deans performances of all of them are available on youtube.
