The music of Vigil by Bill Conti underscores the powerful feelings during the poignant scene in the movie "Rocky II" when Rocky is in emotional distress as his wife, Adrian, has fallen into a coma after the birth of their first child. This is an emotional piece of music that conveys the tension of the moment, evoking feelings of hope and longing, and concluding with profound relief and tender joy as Adrian awakens to see Rocky by her side. In this arrangement, the euphonium, first horn and first trumpet have exposed, expressive solos that are not technically difficult but require strong players. The beautiful horn solos in this arrangement are identical to the original scoring, except this arrangement is transposed down a whole step. The entire piece is scored very thinly, with soft dynamics and subtle entrances, requiring solid players on all parts. The first horn's extensive solos reach near the top of an intermediate horn players range (high A). (There are two versions of the euphonium part to accommodate both bass clef or treble clef players.)
