Bradbury was an American teacher, singer, and hymnist in the 19th Century. The hymn was based on Rev. Edward Mote's (UK) "Solid Rock" of 1834. Sections A and C are the verse. Sections B and D are the refrain. A modulation to a new key occurs towards the end of B section with the aid of an Italian augmented sixth chord. Section C then includes a descant by yours truly.
