Rikard Nordraak, composer of the norwegian national hymn, wrote this Valse Caprice as a part of a scenic music suite for the play "Mary Stuart in Scotland" in 1863. It was later arranged as a symphonic suite by his friend Johan Halvorsen. This arrangement for woodwind quintet is an elegant piece, full of nostalgia.
