Suite No. 1 for solo cello is a composition that pays homage to Bach's solo cello suites while incorporating its own unique musical narrative, reminiscent of a "Hero's Journey." Drawing inspiration from the baroque dance forms, each movement reflects both the essence of its namesake and represents a significant chapter within this musical odyssey. At the heart of the suite lies a symbolic motif introduced in the first measure of the Praeludium, serving as the foundation upon which each subsequent movement is written. Moreover, the Praeludium introduces a harmonic tension in measure 9 that is left unresolved until the final bars of the Gigue. This deliberate choice creates a sense of conflict within the Hero's Journey. It is only in the closing bars of the Gigue that this tension finds resolution, symbolizing the Hero's transformative journey throughout the Suite. This musical narrative reflects the theme of personal growth and renewal, akin to the process of self-discovery and transformation found in the Hero's Journey archetype.
