This work for solo organ aims to recreate the atmosphere of a vigil. Concepts of watching, waiting, meditating, and remembering are all associated with the various forms of 'vigils' that have and do exist worldwide. The piece is based on 8 ascending and varied cycles of a 9-bar added-note chord sequence and theme. Only the white notes are used, in the modal aeolian scale (A-A), within a slow, reverential tempo. There is an aspect of symmetry roughly about the centre, or apex of the work; dynamics and rhythmic complexity increase until the central variation, before receding until a quiet, reflective ending and quasi resolution.Duration: 6 minutes.Registered with PRS (Performing Rights Society, UK).Composer's website: www.roberthowardmusic.co.uk
