Product Description

Cantata BWV 156, also known as "Ich steh mit einem Fuß im Grabe," is a church cantata composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in Leipzig in 1729. It was written for the third Sunday after Epiphany and was first performed on January 23 of that year. The text is by Picander, one of Bachs favorite librettists. The cantata is well known for its opening sinfonia for orchestra and oboe solo. It is a chorale cantata, employing a chorale melody in several movements. Cantata 156 serves as the prayer of one near death for release from the sickbed of punishment for then for Gods aid with the sickness of the soul.
