Written for Big Band with reduced brass (3 trumpets, 2 trombones), this uncompromising piece is based on a straight eights groove and bass line with a lot of drive. The funky, crunchy melody follows a deceivingly sweet introduction; after an alto saxophone solo, the groove switches to Latin for the ensemble chorus. The drums can be featured on an open vamp before returning to the theme, arranged into high gear, and the somewhat cheeky coda.Feel the Burn is an excellent option for High School or College Big Bands looking for a contemporary, high-energy opener or closer.
