In "Song of the Heavenly Host" each voice part has its own eight bar phrase that's repeated a number of times, producing a joyful cacophany of angel song. For SATB, though there is also a Bass 2 part written. If there are not enough Basses to divide up the section, when the Bass 2 part comes in, the Bass 1 melody can be sung by a few singers from any voice part, in whichever octave is most comfortable.
