Gravity: (1) a force of attraction that exists between any two masses; (2) a matter of extreme seriousness. This work explores both definitions. The dark and mysterious opening is based on a call-and-response dialogue. The middle section is characterized by an incessant eighth-note pattern reminiscent of Hanon's The Virtuoso Pianist. When the opening material returns at the end, it evolves into a more expansive gesture that takes us to the very end of the piece. Fast fact: the opening theme drew inspiration from Isaac Albenizs Prelude from Espagña.
