A viola solo (cued in other instruments) opens "Sandstorm" reminiscent of the Sahara desert. Then, the violins take off swirling like an Arabian wind. Cello/bass have a thunderous melody. There is a slower section with a cadenza and then the action is off again ever more furiously to the end! Appropriate for educational and community orchestras. This will be an orchestra and audience favorite. Medium difficult.
