"Aye Aye the Lemur" is the fifteenth in a series of fifteen original contemporary compositions for piano, titled "15 Animal Compositions for Piano" and created to musically describe the movement and habits of specific wildlife creatures. From music notes to words: "Aye Aye the lemur is creeping through the branches of a forest on the island of Madagascar, a ghost-like figure in the light of the silver moon. He stops to tap the claw on his middle finger against a tree trunk, pressing his large ears to it to pick up the sounds of movements from a grub inside. Mimicking the habits of a woodpecker, he slips the middle digit into a hole in the trunk and harpoons a wood-boring insect larva, seizing his prey and devouring it with great enjoyment. Occasionally resting, he spends the rest of the night foraging in the dense canopy of trees and finally, just before the sun is about to rise, he retracts to his comfortable, spherical nest high up among the vines and branches, where he naps all day long."
