William Monk was the music editor for "Hymns Ancient and Modern." Realizing that a text from Henry Francis Lyte titled "Abide With Me" had no tune, he composed "Eventide" and published it in the 1861 edition. The opening text is based on Luke 24:29, which is appropriate for the first Sunday of Lent or during Ordinary Time. It is also appropriate for other solemn occasions. This setting is for a British-style Brass Sextet with orchestral brass alternate parts. Duration ~3:30. 17 pages.
