The Toccare began in the early 16th century as a virtuosic instrumental work for strings (associated with lutes especially) or keyboard instruments. It is the predecessor to the toccata, requiring quick finger motion, contrapuntal writing, and often possessing an improvisatory quality. Toccare is 8 minutes and 30 seconds in duration.
