Lux Lucet In Tenebris (the light that shines in the darkness) is a stirring and flexible original composition based on an original chant with a modal center. It was inspired by the motto for a group of people who lived in the valleys of northern Italy before they were forced to retreat to the mountains during parts of the Middle Ages because they insisted in living a simple life based only on what they read in the written canon. They came to be known as the Waldenses, people of the valleys. Theirs is a story of perseverance and defiance in the face of persecution and suppression. They adapted to live during very harsh conditions and created a way of training and sending out undercover missionaries all over Europe. They even made their own clothing so they could hide contraband pieces of scripture during the time that it was illegal for any commoner to study the Bible. The different parts of the music seek to represent their uncompromising commitment to their motto, their simple way of life, the persecution that they experienced and how they overcame it. It is the composer's hope that the music will inspire many to never give up in the face of persecution. It is arranged to be effective with several types of ensembles, including strings and percussion, winds and percussion, full orchestra, or even orchestra and concert band together. The sample mp3 is the premiere of the piece by orchestra, concert band and percussion combined. For more info about the composer visit www.leandrobizama.com
