An American Rondo is written for Brass Quintet. The style of the piece is similar to the Cheetham Scherzo and the Frackenpohl Brass Quintet. It is three minutes long. It follows a standard rondo form. There are four themes with the primary theme returning several times. The range of each part is about two octaves. The only real technical challenge is the many meter changes that occur in the piece. An American Rondo is a tonal, upbeat piece mainly in a major key.
