These four lovely melodies were composed with young pianists in mind, but they work well for flute. The haunting "Melody," the spritely minuet "Olden Dance," the lively "Scherzino," and the childlike and raucous "March" would make for a great program for a young flutist or good filler pieces for a professional's recital. Viktor Kosenko (1896-1938) was an early pioneer in educational music in the Soviet Union. His death in 1938 remains a mystery. There are dozens of works he wrote for young pianists.
