The original version of this now-classic song by The Beatles was the first to feature a string octet, and only the octet, along with Paul McCartney's voice on the melody and John Lennon and George Harrison singing harmonies. None of The Beatles played an instrument on the recording and, in fact, the string score was written for them by their producer George Martin. The song was included on their 1966 album Revolver. In 2014 violist Alexandra Honigsberg commissioned composer/arranger Steven L. Rosenhaus to create an arrangement of "Eleanor Rigby" for viola quartet, for a mini-festival of viola music in New York City. The performance capped off the festival and was well-received. Because of copyright restrictions the arrangement was held privately until now, and Music-Print Productions is pleased to present it in published form.
