Asturias (Leyenda), named simply Leyenda by its composer, is one of the most famous works by the Spanish composer and pianist Isaac Albéniz. Originally written for piano, the name Asturias was given to it by a German publisher: despite what the name suggests, this music is not considered suggestive of the folk music of the northern Spanish region of Asturias, but rather of Andalusian flamenco traditions. The piece has been transcribed numerous times, especially for guitar. The intrinsic fire of it though is a perfect ingredient for a string ensemble: the violin scales I've added from bar 17 on add to the Spanish flair of the piece, while maintaining its character. Have fun!
