This is a short, a cappella setting of Joseph Mary Plunkett's sublime poem. Each verse features a variation on the same simple melody, while the varied harmony and counterpoint reflect the power and beauty of the text. Only about two minutes in length, I See His Blood Upon the Rose, is appropriate for concert or liturgical use, especially during the Lenten season. It requires some practice, but will be very rewarding for moderate to advanced choirs.
