Fantasy On The Joyful Light is a piece that is based on John 1: 1-18 of the New Testament. The story talks about the creation of the world, birth of Christ and Christ as the Messiah. The main motive of Fantasy On The Joyful Light is based on the arrangement of notes that may be transposed or altered rhythmically: C B E A G F E. The practice of transforming a motive dates back to the twelfth century when Leonin and other composers after him, including Palestrina, Bach, Liszt and Wagner used compositional techniques that involve changing the thematic structure to give musical interest to the listener and the performer. Fantasy On The Joyful Light commences softly and slowly, but ends in an excitement of joy. This concert piece may take about twelve minutes to perform, or longer if the piece is to be played in very large churches or concert halls that produce long reverberations.
