Christopher Benfield's first piano sonata, "Recluse", combines classical style with the emotional explosiveness found in much of his compositional style. Composed of three movements, this piece will challenge many pianists technically and expressively. Each movement explores the different aspects of being secluded from society; heart-wrenching loneliness in the first movement, furious activity in the second movement, and dream-like acceptance in the third movement. This music is a good addition to any piano recital, or a full performance of solely this work. This is the complete collection of this sonata.
